Green pools happen to good homeowners
A busy month, a broken pump, a long vacation or a house that sat empty on the market, and a pool can go from blue to green fast in a Mississippi summer. We get calls every week from homeowners, realtors and property managers in Madison, Ridgeland, Canton and Flowood with a pool that got away from them. No judgment here. Green-to-clean work is something Royal Pool Pros is proud to be good at.
How a green-to-clean recovery works
First we remove the debris: leaves and sticks come out of the water, the baskets get emptied and the equipment gets checked so the pump and filter can actually run. Then we test the water and balance pH and alkalinity, because chlorine works far better when pH is in range. Next comes a heavy chlorine shock, sized for how green the pool is, followed by brushing every surface to break the algae loose.
Over the next visits the filter does the heavy lifting. Dead algae turns the water cloudy gray, then blue-hazy, then clear. We clean or backwash the filter as it loads up, vacuum out the settled algae, and keep adjusting chlorine until the pool holds it. Most pools are swimmable within a few days, depending on how far gone they were and how well the equipment runs.

Keeping it from turning green again
The best way to never need a rescue again is regular service. Most of our green-to-clean customers stay on a weekly plan afterward so the water is tested and balanced every week. To get a price on a green pool, send Royal Pool Pros a photo of the water and we'll text you back. We don't quote a green pool sight unseen, because every one is different.
